hey all,

Just wondering if there is a way to reset the oil change system on the E46 M3 2001. The dealership wants $190.00 to change my oil, and that is ridiculous. I have never heard of an oil change being that much even for a BMW dealership. ANy help would be appreciated.

Wow, that is a hefty oil change. To reset your oil indicator, try the following steps:

Turn key off. Hold down the trip reset button (the one on the left) and turn the key to the first position. Keep holding the button for about 7 seconds until Oil service or Inspection along with Reset appears. Release the button and press and hold it again until "reset" starts to flash. Release button Press and release the button. This resets the indicator and it should show the new interval, and display end SIA. Press the button again.

Holy Smoke, I'll change your oils for half of what you were quoted! I change my own and with Mobil 1 and a Mahle filter it cost me about $45.00. The round trip air fare will drive your cost up to have me do though....

I'm going to hold you to that, but you have to cover your own travel expense. [wiggle]

It costs me @ $70 - $80 to do it myself because the oil is somewhere around $10/quart.

I like changing my oil, it gives me a chance to sneak in a few extra beers over the weekend. [drinking]

depending on where you are from, is the labor cost. but 6 quarts of 10 - 60 with oil filter it runs about around 60 bucks. plus your labor. 120 sounds about normal.
