Old 528e Bumpers

Has anyone found a good method to clean and shine the bumpers on older BMWs?

My '88 528e rubber potion of the bumpers is "fuzzy" looking.
Is there a slick way to bring them back to life? [???1]

Are they the black rubbery or plastic stuff, or are they just regular painted bumpers?
