since i moved here to baltimore, md life has had more downs than ups. but i'v e found something at which to smile about: the availability of open roads. there are plenty and they arn't hard to find. it's interesting though, i moved here from the washington, d.c. area and there you have to travel out atleast 20 miles to find a nice road and chances are it's still occupied by some slow poke. but here the roads, out of the city, are winding, hilly and least traveled. these roads allow me to really enjoy the ever ready torque of the ol' bimmeras welll as it's smooth and nimble suspension. if you live near or in balt. then respond to this thread or check out marylan roads.com or just pull off one the main raods and see where it takes you. i'm sure you'll enjoy it.

The Boston area was crowded, too. You had to get out to Rt. 2 in the western part of the state and then head north up Rt. 100 into Vermont. One of the 10 Best Roads in America. [thumb]

Out here in central IL, we have tons of open roads; all chalk-line straight and bumpy as hell. [?|]

hey, you know what? for anyone traveling to the baltimore region who enjoys driving i'd be willing to give them a set of directions to the roads i've driven. maybe they could get away from the business meeting or whatever for a few hours and release some tension, get fired up for the next meeting.

I just recently moved from Laurel (DC suburb) to way out yonder in Harford County just north of Bmore. Talk about back roads to have fun on, there are plenty of twisties out where im located. Hey roadrunrx, have you taken Falls Rd., Harford Rd., or ever been to Darlington? Oh let me not forget to mention the Baltimore racetrack if you want simiulated Juan Montoya Formula 1 runs with highspeed turns, try I-83 going north from the Harbor towards York, PA and back. That highway is a dream to ride on and is the ultimate suspension tester when going in excess of 100mph!! Its basically vehicle free in the early AM on the weekends.

Is there any website/organization that tracks the best driving roads in the country? I think something like that would be interesting, and they have lists for things like golf and other hobbies. Anyone know if this list exists?

hey, kclark. thanks for the extra tips. i haven't tried rte 83 al the way yet but i'm sure to do it now that you've told me. i recently out on md rte 99, west of bmore andhad a great time on a slight windy road amidst corn fields. it seems like i could just keep going and never run out of wonderous territory to explore. it's like louis and clark gt touring!
along rte 99 there were roads leading from it headed north that looked interesting but i stayed the course cuz it was new to me. i'd also like to recommend to you old court rd. but as you said in your response it's best to do these roads early in the morning. but actually they're so lightly traveled that afternoon is good too for catching the last hour or so of sunlight.
happy motoring-drive on, baby!
