Hi,

This maybe a little vauge but I have a 1995 518ise.
Towards the back of the engine on the right hand side (next to where the heater pipes go into the car) there is something that possibly sounds like a pump?! Could anyone tell me what it is??

Sorry to be so vauge! But any help would be great!

That's all for the heater system though. The failure of those parts isn't crucial to the engine and I can't forsee a way that it would make the car overheat. Even if you had 2 stuck valves, they would either be stuck shut (which they do during the summer....) or stuck open (which they do in the winter) so there's no way that would effect the engine. If you're experiencing overheating I would bleed the system first, and then check to make sure all the lines are okay and that the temp sensors are good. If not that, it could be the water pump.

Hi

I was amased to see this web page giving engine parts details. I have 530i, 1995 model, automatic, V-8. Can anyone help me in giving the same information as above , regarding my car.

That is for the heater system, but as it was leaking I think it was causing air to be sucked in, and therefore no water circulating around the engine. I think that is the problem anyway - either that or I am guesing that the water pump needs replacing?!

Check E34.net it says something about replacing your water pump if you have the plastic fins with the metal one. Also it seems to me if there is air getting into your cooling system then it would decrease the pressure and allow your coolant to boil easier. This is bad news for your head gasket, cat, engine in general and your oil. Get it fixed soon.
