Oxygen Sensor Codes

1994 530i - even when the oxygen sensors are replaced, we still get the oxygen 1 & 2 error codes. The engine runs somewhat rough until the engine gets up to running temperature, then the light usually goes out. This happens more often than not when the weather is colder?

Help?

I need to know excactly what code(s) you are getting. (1221, 2221, 1212, 1222, 2222, 1213) how long before you replaced the sensors did this problem start, what happned? Do you have 2 or 4 oxygen sensors / heated oxygen sensors? Do you have caytlic converters or a cat free system. I have 3 driveability technicians that I am bouncing your concern off of. give me as much info as you can.

GOOD LUCK

Sorry for the delay, been traveling. Not sure of your codes, but I use the Bavarian Autosport fault code reader/reset tool. Codes prior to the installation of two new oxygen sensors, were as follows in this order: OC (oxygen sensor #2), Od (oxygen sensor #1, Cb( Lambda Control #2), C9 ( Lamda Control #1, and 29 (Air Mass Sensor).

Replaced both oxygen sensors, inspected Mass Air Sensor - found corrosion on #3 pin (power pin), but power was still present. Cleaned and reset all codes. Ran for two days fine, no codes...

Now I still get OC, Od, C9 and C6. The car runs fine, intermitent check engine light goes on sometime prior to getting hot, but only on idle. When running above 1,000 rpms, runs fine. Checked codes again today and same four codes. Has died at stop sign once, right when check engine light comes on. Restarts fine and light usually goes out above 1,000 rpms. Also, gas mileage has been the same through the entire process....very good for a small V8.

Someone told me that the Cat Converter needed replacing??? Has 100,435 miles.

replace your mass air flow sensor. seeing how you have corriosion on the pins and you are still getting a mass air code, there is more than likley corriosion in the sensor. that would cause all the concerns you have discribed. although this may not be all of your problem (but it very well could be) it is the best place to start based on what you are telling me.

Thanks, makes sense....seems all roads lead back to computer action with air intake.

I was getting 4 codes from the Bavarian Automotive (Lambdas 1 & 2 and Oxygen Sensors 1 & 2). I replaced both sensors and cleared the codes. Now I'm again getting Lambda 1 and Oxygen Sensor 1. Any suggestions?
