hello all some advice if you could,i drive 1999 v plate m5 ,instrument cluster digits blured and very faint looking is there any way of fixing this other than replacing the whole cluster ? also vanos unit left side as you look at the ingine makes nasty like tappets sound what can be done to fix this thanks

The instrument cluster can be removed and then spray the contacts and the backside of the display with Kontakt 60 spray to "improve" quality. There are a couple of places here in germany that you can send it to get the pixels repaired. Costs roughly 150euros...thinking about doing it myself next month. I dont know the difference with the VANOS on the M5 motor versus the I6 motors. But it sounds like the VANOS is about to go bad. It happened to me about a month ago and it was because the o-rings that are inside of the VANOS were failing so the VANOS wasnt operating the way it should. They do not sell the o-rings therefore....purchasing a brand new VANOS.... ~300euros(just for parts that is)...but I could be wrong because you have a M5.

yeah thanks alot for the advice the spray sounds good for the cluster not shaw where to go here in uk thou ,vanos unit i think i have to get replaced as on this model it was not fitted with the oil pressure valve ,im no expert on cars attal just love driving them wil look into it .thanks again
