I want to add a phone to my 2004 X5. My two options are either the traditional BMW CPT9000 (Motorola V60) phone, or the Bluetooth module.

Do any of you have either of these in your truck? If you do, what has your experience been like?

If you have the CPT9000, do you also have the voice activation module? If you don’t have it, does anyone know if you can still use the voice activation feature of the phone itself when it is in the cradle?

If you have Bluetooth, what is it like? Does it work well with the steering wheel controls? How is the reception?

Finally, has anyone installed either system himself or herself? I would like to try to install the phone myself. The dealer tells me that an antenna cord has to be run from the center console to under one of the bumpers of the car…

Any feedback anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated!

Bluetooth phone is the best really - reception is fine, connectivity is perfect and the phone directory apears on the screen - quite cool infact. SMS text messages can also be read and deleted.

The phone automatically connects and you can have up to 4 phones.

Phone can be in your pocket or brief case or in a cradle just under the arm rest - you can also obviously upgrade your phone too.

I certainly have had good experience.

I'm in the process of buying an X5 and was asking about these phone options. My dealer said they installed three Bluetooth phone systems and have had reports of disatisfaction on two of the three. Customers complained of poor crackling sounds and general ppoor reception. One demanded it be pulled out.

I'm going to go with the traditional Motorola phone set up. I was under the assumption this was not available with voice activiation. Would love to hear differently.

Maybe straying a little OT, but can't an existing cell phone be integrateed into a vehicle that's got the phone prep? Maybe I don't fully understand the concept, but couldn't I rig up my Sprint PCS phone?

I see you have the sirius music option with your X5. How do you like it- worth the $'s?
It was a whim, but I like it a lot more than I thought I would. If you're into music and you travel it's definitely worth it. With the CD changer and Sirius, I don't even use regular radio anymore.

We are a law firm in NJ that is looking into bringing a class action lawsuit regarding the 2004 model year and the blue tooth issue. If you are interested in being the class representative, please send me an e-mail. you must have a 2004 model year BMW with BMW Assist but want Bluetooth capability.

Thanks
