please help my 2001 530i engine got lock up

please help , i have a 2001 bmw 530i, it was raning hard yesterday and i ran over a pile of water then the engine shout down and i try to start but it won't start again, i smell somthing is frie, i have to push it out the water and tow to a shop, the shop told me the engine is lock up and i need a new engine, is this true? is there anyway i can fix it without a new engine,anyway to unlock it.. please please help....please e-mail me at j12318221@yahoo.com thanks for reading it...

It is possible to "lock up" an engine if you drive thru water. The water can be forced into the air intake and sucked into the cylinders. Water does not compress, and the engine will lock. This can break parts in the engine as well as causing major water/rust damage. You may need a new engine.

The only way to "fix" this is to tear down the engine and see what is damaged, and/or replace the engine.

air intake for these cars are very low, big puddles and flood areas wil destroy the engine if driven threw,,sucks water right threw the air cleaner and bends the connecting rods have seen many of these
