If you can manage to get the middle front grill off (bit tricky because of tabs you can only get to when the hood is up) you can work the mechanism manually by pushing the latch down,
good luck

Cheers. I got the grill off as that was my original idea. I just can't seem to find the catch. It feels like there is a plate or some sort of slam in front of it. Is there a way of getting around this thing.

no worries, with this "plate" which is actually the backing plate of the lock, just undo the two bolts in front, and it should pop off, you will have to put the loack back together once you've opened it, make sure you give yourself plenty of time, and be carful not to lose anything.

unless, you can get that plate undone, the latch wont let go.
is the cable that runs from the lever to the latch snaped it the midle or is it snaped on the latch end? are you sure its snaped and not just come off its seat on the lever?
