Power steering vs manual steering

Hi,

Please could someone tell me if it is possible to fit a manual steering rack onto my car which currently runs power steering?

It is a 1985 BMW 318i

No problem - it is quite a simple process, and you can reuse alot of the parts from the power steering. Will result in extra performance due to weight reduction, and heaps more "feel" in the steering.

I will try to find a write-up I have on how to do it.

While you are at it, remove your A/C if you have it - more unneeded weight - especially in Dorset lol!

Cheers for that!! too right about dorset, well luckily I live in Bournemouth on the south coast which is mabye the warmest area in England!!!
But taking a year out in Australia (Not that anyone really cares but im bored..!)

That would be a great help if anyone could provide me with a guide!

That one will do - very concise - post up if you have any probs, and try to buy all of the plugs for the hose fittings before you do it to save hassle.

Does anyone know if a similar conversion exists for the e36? Also, I do know that you can fit e36 power racks onto an e30 with some slight modification, so does that mean that I could purchase a manual e30 rack and fit it onto my e36? Has anyone ever done this? Thanks!
