Just a little background info.. I got a 1985 BMW 325e from my uncle that I plan on using as a daily driver. The car itself is in excellent condition with 160k on it (auto)

Now here is the problem. (note- the car has been sitting for about 4-5 months)

When putting the car in drive and pressing the gas pedal the car does absolutely nothing (just revs). But in reverse it works perfectly fine. Everything else in the car works perfectly.. it fires right up when turned on reverse works, but when in drive it does nothing.

I'm know very little when it comes to BMWs (I drive a VW).. but is there something very simple that im over looking? I mean the car was being driven without a problem in the summer so I dont know what can possibly be wrong. Besides the major problems like the transmission and torque convertor what else can i check? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the transmission lost all its fluids from sittting, I mean that they drained down from the valve body into the pan. Most likely due to age and you are going to need a rebuild. 160k on an auto is about right for a rebuild. At this point you might try a transmission power flush and see if that will revive her, NOT a drain and fill, you need to try a power flush where the fluids are forced through the system.

Big Daddy when you say "power flush" do you mean there is a tool to drain all fluids from both the trany and the torque convertor? You dont need a "power flusher" to remove all the fluid, any "unlazy" mechanic would fill it up and remove the front cooler hose run it in park untill clean fluid comes out stop the engine and top up, ive done it before.
BimmerNoob make sure before you take your car to the mechanic, note the condition of the fluid, and explain exactly what you want done, (trany and converter) im in the trade and shortcuts (and ripoffs) are made, also a full rebuild does not sound nessessary, just that forward clutch packs(bands) need replacing, i think is possible with the trany in the car.

I think a "mechanic" that rips a customer off shouldent be a mechanic, a real mechanic is one that is good at fixing cars and is honest.

Let me know what happens, cheers
