Hi just aquired a snooper radar detector but the cigar lighter connection had been cut off . is this a simple job just to hot wire the snooper straight into the lighter wiring. If so , how easy.

thanx

Well, if I bought a stolen radar detector I would probably use radioshack to fix the cord...but i'm not sure if you have stores like that. You could hot wire it, just make sure you put a fuse inline with the positive lead.

Did you try temporarily holding the wires together while the engine is running?

Usually, you can hard-wire a radar detector to other wires of the car for things like the sunroof motor, window motors, or whatever electrical wire you can get your hands on. Radar detectors don't draw much power to really affect anything.

ROFL what the hell are you talking about? Holding WHAT wire together? [rofl] I don't think it is a very good idea to 'hold' live wires together.

Just get the power off a map light wire or something.

Most likely a fuse and look in the engine bay fuse box to see which one is blown.

If it blows again, find the cause of the problem and fix it. All you needed to do was find any source of power (cigarette lighter is OK - ACC wire from ignition better as it is only on when the ignition is on) and then put the other wire to a good grounding point on the chassis. A fuse is unecessary when using an existing power source as it is already fused.

The exception to this of course is if the power source wire and fuse is rated well above that of the detector wire. Then an inline fuse should be placed on the detector wire to prevent it burning out in the case of of a fault.
