Radiator Fan

Recently while looking at my engine, i noticed that all the blades on my radiator fan were 'shaved' off quite a bit. Two questions, what could cause this besides the obvious something getting in the way and could this cause my engine bay to heat up drastically?

Also I guess the big quesiton is, should I replace it ASAP?
And Tips on cooling down my engine.

Thanks, Peyton

if some of the fan is shaved off it is probably because you have a bad engine mount. Under accelleration it probably shifts and rubs the radiator (or something else). Check the 2 mounts. Its very possible this rubbing burnt ot your fan clutch also causing the car to over heat. Does it only overheat while you are idling and not going anywhere?

im pretty sure my fan clutch is OK because it speeds up and slows down with the engine, are engine mounts a hassle to replace?

it will speed up and slow down with the engine no matter if the clutch is good or bad but the clutch makes it spin much faster like switching gears when the radiator is really hot. So when you are at idle it goes twice as fast and when you hit the gas it can hear it like a turbine. (extreme)

There are tests for a working fan clutch. They are a very common failure on the e30's. SOme say to get news paper and rool it up while the car is hot try to slow down the fan. Seems dangerous to me. you can also see how easy it is to turn the fan when cold (car turned off) then let it get hot and test again with the engine off. I should be harder to turn when hot.

the engine mounts aren't too bad. I had to replace both of mine.
