RE:Thoughts on this 2002 M3

Hi Guys:

Take a look at this link for a 2002 BMW M3, SMG 35K miles for $31K.

http://cars.com/go/search/detail.js...+descending|Q-descending|Z-60606&aff=national

The price seems a good $5-6K less then any other M3 I have seen (2001 and up) so I am quite tempted to take a look this weekend (might even think about trading in my 2000 Vette at this price) [idea]

I need to call in the price to esnure its not a typo, but this seems like a heck of a deal if its a correct price.

The mileage is not too bad, but given that it is only about one year or so away from being out of warrenty, are there any big ticket items I would be looking at repairing in say the the next 2 years or so (assuming the car has been properly maintained).

Thanks

Nice car and great price. Jack, see if Mike (tool fan) will run a car fax on it. Here is a link:

Car Fax

With it being a 2002 model you will want to make sure the rod bearings and the SMG software has been upgraded. There have been Service Bulletins put out on both these subjects. I had both updated on mine.

I am going to give the dealer a call tomorrow to confirm the price. Carfax is a must (you never know - the car may be at such good price because of a recall or a bad past accident).

I will keep the forum posted on whether I unexceptedly turn into a proud, dual BMW owner or not. I wasn't really looking for a new car right now, but this one may be worth revising my timetable.

The service bulletin should not affect the price of the car as long as it is under warranty. This should be fully covered. I have heard they should extend the warranty due this bulletin, but I have not confirmed it. Tom, did they extend your warranty being you have a 2001 model?

To quote the immortal Homer Simpson: "DOH!"

The car was already sold by the time I called, so I guess the dream is over for now (at least until my income goes up or I can find another 2002 for $31K which is unlikely for now).

Oh well [bigcry]

Maybe it was for the best (saves me a long, inevitable arguement with my wife had I rolled into our driveway with a fresh 60 month car loan to look forward to).
