I've got a standard set of tires on the car. In any wet I have to be very careful moving from still otherwise the rear end of the car moves or the wheel spin++
Any thoughts on how to improve the situation...other than buy expensive softer tires

e30's are known for their light rear ends, but I had a 91 318is, major mods, but it was solid even in the wet unless I was hammering it. You either have some real cheap tires as Martin has pointed out or as Dan suggests your dumping the clutch.

If you have an automatic trans, tires would be the only solution, other than a lighter foot. Does it happen in general on all roads, or just certain ones? The road surface may be polished, especially at traffic lights.

Same problem happened to me destroying one of my wheels by the time i'd finished spinning, that wasn't down to shitty tyres but diesel on the road surface...You could fit a LSD to try and stop it

that´s all true, but no E30 318i could normally have enough power to create this massive wheel spin, with an automatic nonetheless. i don´t know. maybe you have a digital foot? full or no throttle only? [joke]

seriously, i don´t know but something is strange. maybe it is a combination of some really bad streets and bad tires and your right foot?

installing an LSD may help, but ain´t that like breaking a butterfly on the wheel? there must be a reason...
