It all started when I bought my car, one of the fog light was missing a bracket. Then it fell out and shorted and died. Ok, so I get a new buld and bracket and plug it all in. It wouldn't turn on.. So i had a great idea to run power from the other fog light to my new one. This worked for a couple hours then both died. Fuse blew. I repalced it a couple times assuming it was a short and tried to fix it. Now the fuse stops blowing but they won't turn on. I can hear a relay clicking or something when I hit the foglight button. Also I just noticed today that my hazard relay dosn't work either. The lights flash but the hadzard button does not light up anymore. Any ides on what happened? Or what relays I need to replace.

Sorry for the long post but thx!

For e30s, the fog lights are on separate circuits. I imagine that when you wired them together you were drawing more current than the circuit was designed for. You may have burned the contacts on the relay since it still clicks. You may be able to fix it if you are handy or just get one from a dealer or junklyard.

The relay is the one closest to the engine and toward the passenger compartment.

Although the flasher light may be related it might also be a blown bulb especially since the flashers work. The hazards and turn signal are on the same fuse and, I believe, use the same flasher relay. They are on a circuit separate from the foglights.

All this is in the Bentley manual. If you don't have one you should get one. Saved my butt many times.

Yes theres only one relay. Does is have a schematic on it? You may be able to check it out and see if that is your problem before spending the money on it.

You may, if you can follow the schematic, be able to tell if the relay is working with a battery and an ohmmeter. If not sure how to check it you might just replace it and see if that fixes it. Without checking out the relay and verifying that it is broken before replacing it is a troubleshooting technique we call 'easter egging'.

Good luck.
