I am thinking to replace the radio in my '86 325E which has the separate fader control. I heard that you have to rewire the wire. Anyone have any detail on this. Any info to help me to stay clear of troubles will be great apprecipated. TIA.
When i installed mine i had to buy a converter. (din to iso) but they are European standards (as far as i know). If the wiring is the same for US and Euro E30's then you'll have two or four speaker wires each with a two prong connecting block. Also the power for the radio and the power antena connector. (and aerial which you also may need an adapter for) the problem you'll have is if you don't already have a memory wire (constant 12v supply that doesn't turn off when the ignition is switched off) is pretty simple if you just take your time (i'd never done it before and it only took me 30mins while i was at work ) If the worst happens you can just cut all the wires and hard wire the new radio. (not the best solution but if you can't find the adaptor then you may have to!)
