Hey Jack, that is correct the flywheel is replaced 1% of the time. Only if its grooved or has changed to another color. The clutch is a whole new deal. The design on the E39/E46 uses a self adjusting pressure plate, the advantage is the clutch pedal has the same pressure and same travel. The disadvantage, you don't feel it reducing into nothing untill the car starts slipping or if it is being serviced its a priority to check the thickness of the disc through a peep hole. Having replaced a few, and reading some shop manual literature they require a lot of special tools. Most of them are ridiculous unless your a novice. But back to the big picture. a little more time is needed to set it up, properly and safely. The dealer is not the only avialable shop to do this repair. Make sure you understand all thats involved and arm your self with this knowlage. Harrison Motorsports
