I don't know when my '89 had coolant hoses replaced. Just received a list of about 15 that are involved with the cooling system. Should I replace all of these? How labor intensive is this? Meaning, will my mechanic have to open the engine or dismantle sections under the hood? Hoses are not expensive but the labor may be huge. Also, will I lose all the coolant? Thanks!

15 hoses? seems a bit much. I cant even think of 10. Been a while since I touched coolant hoses on a M20. If you're worried about labor, several of them are easy to do yourself, and all you need is a screwdriver (in the trunk). Do the ones you can, and let a mechanic do the others. If the mechanic knows what he's doing, he won't have to take off the intake manifold. Of course you lose the coolant, because you will get the old coolant flushed out and new juice put back in.

If you're going to do coolant hoses, might as well do the vacuum lines too, as vacuum leaks can be a major pain in trying to diagnose idle problems, stalling, etc.

Don't forget to check the 3 accessory belts too.

Bloody much sums it up!
There are 8 different rubber coolant hoses on my m20 engine but comes to 10 if your including the two for the cabin heater, I recommend doing those as well.

Some hoses are tricky to get at but should'nt take more than an hour for a fully qualified mechanic to do.

+1 on doing all your little 1/4" vacuum hoses too, ask your mechanic.
Peace.
