For those of you that haven't done this yet, you're supposed to get a Free tank of gas and loaner for the duration of the service even if your warranty has expired.

So before you take it in, make sure your tank is near empty unless you are worried about the gas they put in. [;)]

Mine is going in this Wednesday so wish me luck. Hopefully this is the last recall BMW puts out for the E46 M3. [V]

Tom, I took mine in with like 9 mile left. They gave me a loaner and filled the gas when I picked her up. Very nice service. I haven't had a problem since I had the rod bearings done.....

I believe they did, because they access the rod bearing from the bottom to replace them meaning they need to take the oil pan off. I don't think they changed out the oil filter though. My car run very nice too....

Ok very cool, I just wondered if they tried you to charge you for that portion. And yes you are supposed to get a new filter too.

I got charged $0.00. I also had a couple of campaigns done for the SMG gearbox. Seems it needed some software upgrade. I also know the verts have a campaign for the fold down roofs. They have to spay some sort of sealant or something on them.

You are/have taken your car in today didn't you? If you took it in early AM it should be done tonight barring any problems. They have done so many of them they are quite proficient at doing these recalls.

Let us know how it turns out. My buddy with a "02" 6-speed manual vert. took his in and had it done in one day as well. He even switched his car to the dealership I take mine too. The GM loves that fact. He is going to put me on a list for all their upcoming events the dealer puts on in the future; we’ll see. Taking it easy on the car for 1200 miles is the hardest thing to do. Boy do these cars scream....

LOL Scott, you beat me to the post. Just came back from the dealer at this very moment and so far the car drives very good. I do hope they did a good job implementing the recall since I don't want the hassle of getting a new engine.

The funny thing is reverting back to the break in period for another 1200 miles, this sort of brings back memories and frustration from when I first bought the car. At least I got to drive a brand new X3 for three days.

FYI:
11-41-0-395-196 Bearing Kit comes with your new Oil Filter

Nice to hear Tom. I find my car drive very well too. I am happy to hear it does come with a filter change. I check my oil (I was down a quart one time so now I check constantly) amost everytime I take it out for a drive and the oil looks very clean.

The break in period is very hard on cars like these.

P.S. What happened to you sig. and avatars? Don't bother anymore?

:)

hehe, I forgot about replacing my avatar after Halloween and haven't had time to revise my signature with the new rims.
