Dear all,

I recently bought the brand new 2006 map CD to replace the now outdated original CD for the factory-fitted SatNav of my 2000 E39 535i.

The problem is that now it takes ages for the SatNav to display/redraw the moving map and even to recalculate a new route (if in "icon" mode) when I decide to ignore its first suggestions.

I suspect the software is unable to cope with the huge amount of extra road information the updated CD contains over the old one. Does anyone know what is the current SW version for these SatNav models (I think Mk III, the ones with the 4:3 screen).

Thanks.

A bit of research in Google revealed that:

=====================START OF QUOTE=====================

This software is made by BMW specifically for updating navigation systems.

There are two software components to your BMW navigation system: one is the operating system software (technically called “firmware”) and the other is the removable map disk. This info is for the firmware, not the map disk.

The update will not affect your current preferences and will not affect your stored addresses in memory, so you won’t have to reprogram anything.

What software do I have now? To determine what software (or firmware) version you presently have go to your setup screen by pushing “MENU” and select “Set” or "Setup". In the upper right hand corner you will see “SW x-x/xx”.

Now, look at the following table for the version number you currently have.

So, what changes can I expect by updating to V25?

Older than V21 have a different interface. A new update will drastically improve the whole system, including faster data access.

· Cool “== BMW ==” logo when you start the car.

Today I had the dealer perform the update and V27 was stamped on the CD. Will find out at a later date what the improvements are.
