Hey Guys

I got my 05 525 back from its first service yesterday, which only consisted of an oil change at 9300 miles. The service rep said everything was Ok and that they scoped the engine to make sure. Even on the final service invoice it said "scoped engine". Am I correct to think that means checked all codes and found no problems or does it mean something totally different.

Now, I've had my 03 325xi in serveral times to the same dealer for service and never heard that word or has it ever appeared on my service invoice. Something new?????

well scoped to me would mean they put it in on an oscope of some time (usually the companies). What that does is they check how ur vehicle's emissions are by putting a sniffer on ur exhaust and then applying several connectors to check how your firing line and all that good stuff is in your ignition system (this usually shows when something is bad in other places) so if they scoped it means they were checking ur igntion/emissions. Both of those are good indicators of when your car is doing bad so means ur car is running Top shape if "scoped engine" means what I think it does.

Just got my 04 545 back from it's first oil change (12,900 miles) and my workorder had the same "scoped" description on it in addition to the oil change. I'll have to pull the workorder tomorrow but I recall it saying car was due for a scoping. I did not ask but assumed it meant hooking the car up to the computer and checking for any codes that indicate trouble.
