Service engine soon light??!! HELP??!!

I have a 2003 525ia thats 4 years old. about every 500 miles the Check engine light comes on and the same code comes up when i take it to the dealership:Loose Gas Cap. they have replaced the entire gas tank and it still hasn't helped! Any suggestions?

Hi there...

500 miles...like after a fill-up? Do you fill it yourself? If so, make sure to tighten the gas cap and it "clicks" twice...
If the problem persists, get the dealership to check the DMTL pump (diagnosis module tank leakage). It's like a purge canister. It pressurizes the tank after the key is off and measures (by amperage) how much leakage there is. I've seen a DMTL module leak air out of it, setting off the light. A HC (hydrocarbon) or combustible gas detector is an expensive tool to have, but solved my problem.

Hmmm,
They replaced the whole gas tank? Would make more sense, IMHO, to replace the diagnostic pump that's causing the light to come on... Did your service center actually find a leak in the tank? If you've had an accident to the right rear corner of your car, it's possible that either the pump or the lines that go to it got damaged. Those are the only things I can think of that might help you out.
