Sheep skins

This might be heresy, but I live in a very hot climate. I have sport seats on a recently purchased 2006 530 xi. Are there any quality sheepskins that will deal with the thigh bolsters and go on and off relatively easily so that I can remove after the heat of the summer?

i would go with the BMW seat savers. i bought a pair for my 3 and 5-series. cool in summer and warm in the winter. they do not cover the entire seat. since they protect the seat from punctures, etc. as well, i do not plan to remove them except to replace. it took a technician about 45 to install them correctly ... i watched. really tight fit - they don't shift. my 2 cents.

Thanks for the reply. I went to the BMW website and it looks like what they are selling now covers everything but the headrest. Is that how yours are?

You say they fit tight. Do you have seats where the thigh bolster goes in and out? If so, is there elastic to allow the movement?

Last, comfortwise how do they compare?

sheep skins

No prob.

You're correct - nothing covers the headrest. as far as expandable thigh support, it's not needed. the cover "covers" the center on the seats. it will not interfere with the lumbar support associated with sport seats. as for comfort, i'll never own another car without'em. ... because you get what you pay for! take a look at the interior of my 5 for a better look. the covers come in Black, Gray, and Beige.

when properly installed, they fit really tight - unlike any i've had with previous cars. i was hesitant at first because $240 is alot for a seat cover, but to me, they were worth every penny. good luck.

Hope this helps.

Been out of town, driving the new rig. So, I'm sorry for the late posting.

I'm not being clear enough. Sorry, The thigh bolster isn't the lumbar. On the sport seat it extends outward under your thigh. I appreciate the photo, and I agree they look like a tight fit, but it will keep me from being able to extend the thigh bolster and that is one of the most comforatable features of the seat.

The bolsters are the portion of a seat that molds to the hip area (love handles on us older guys), they are tighter and more noticeable on sports seats or the M3 Vader seats. The sheepskins shown in the photo are called seat vests and are what I prefer. I have not found a pair of sheepskins (BMW or otherwise) that feel like, after installation I am getting the sport seat feel. None are tight and they feel thick and heavy. I have tried them all and sold them all after a few weeks use.

Leonard is talking about the thigh support piece found on sport seats.
It extends forward to support your thighs especially on long drives when your legs are not moving much and wants to sleep a little. The retract back flush on the seat when not needed.

From the pic, I don't think it will work with the sport seats.

Here's a pic of my previous 540i with sport seats

the BMW seat savers will not accomodate the "extend & retract" feature of your seat. my fits really tight - no movenment at all. period. it seems like you need something that is loose-fitting and not snug.

let us know if you find something.

cheers!

Cosmos was right. I was using the wrong term. It looks like I'll be sitting on my black leather sport seats in the 40 days or more when we get 100+ temps.

Thanks for all the input..

Sun shade smun shade

I've used a sunshade since I moved here in 1978 and with 100+ and up to 118, you still want something for the fanny and back. Tinted windows help, but the skins used to do the trick.
