Shifter question

I recently stumbeled into an '84 528e, the only problem with it is the shifter. It feels like the mounting point for the shifter is missing, leaving the shift lever just connected to the linkage and nothing else. Does this car use the standard type two-linkage shifter for the transmission, or is it a direct input? If it's direct input, Im in for trouble. Thanks for the help,

Manual, I saw at the parts store that they list a "shifter busing" for it, Im thinking what happened was that the anchor point, like the fulcrum in a fulcrum and lever set up, is missing, so the shift lever is hanging on by whatever connects it to the transmission. In most cars, it is two levers, but on some, the shift lever is a direct input onto the top of the transmission. If it is the former, I can fix it easily, if it is the latter however, I will have to pull apart the tranny, which equals no fun. Any idea which of the two it is?

If it's anything like a 325e, the shift tower mounts are broken, or the rubber in them has failed, and the lower shifter pivot is worn out completely. You'll know for sure what the problem is once you get under the car... it's pretty easy to fix.
