how do the ADJUSTABLE short shifters work? also, i've seen a couple 'short shifters' that are like, a block of metal that connects the linkage to the shifter...? do these work and if so, which would be better to go for? thanks.

I have not heard of an "adjustable" short shifter. I might suggest that you contact whomever the supplier is? I have a Dinan short shifter, but it is not adjustable. I had a UUC short shifter in my e30, it too had no adjustments.

I thought maybe Bavauto had one... but I may be wrong. Either that or Bmpd. But I may just be thinking of the short shifters they have.

I've never seen one, but they would be pretty simple to manufacture or even make out of an old shifter if you are handy with tools and fabrication - have a thread to adjust ratio of length above/below the cup and then another to reduce overall length, 2 locking nuts and you're done! - badass!

I got a short shifter shich i think was purchased brom Bav Auto, but never installed, with my last E30 that I Bought. It has a longer section below the ball (almost an inch) and a weighted rod so that it still shifts smoothly. It is the best thing you can ever do to tighten up shifter play and shorten throw length by about 50%.
