I need some help!!!

I'm in the market for a new car. I have been waiting for the 330ci ZHP (performance package) but I am very intrigued with a used M3 (2001 model with about 30K for $39,000).

Are there any issues which I should be aware of? Tranny problems? Any upgrades since the first year that make the 2001 model less desireable?

How about the stick shift...i read somewhere that it was a tad loose? ...I would prefer a short-throw manual...

Thanks for any help...

if i had the option, i would definately go with the M3. although the 330 ZHP looks like a sick package, and i'd get it if i wasn't getting an M3, the M3 has goodies that you won't get in the ZHP......like 333bhp

depends, i think there was a engine blow out problem, which should be fixed by now. also, used m3 could mean either the previous owned couldnt afford it, or really beat it up. is it a manual or smg? and also think about both insurence and practicallity of a 2 door /4 door. if you could afford it and dont mind squishing people into a back seat, get the M3.

He's looking at getting a 330ci ZHP coupe, so the two door thing isn't a consideration for him.

Man, I think that's a really tough decision. I am a complete sucker for the E46 M3, so I would probably lean towards the M3. But, it would be nice to find one with less than 30K miles on it. But, the ZHP coupe is really sweet too, and it would be new, so I'm not sure what I would decide!

Either one would be a hell of a lot better than your 1990 VW Fox! [:)]

The 330Ci ZHP is a very nice package. I'm looking forward to test driving one soon. That said, if you intend to track the car, I'd definitely go with the M3. In addition to the more horsepower/torque, the M3's got a very nice limited-slip diff (LSD) and a shorter gear ratio. The engine problem should not affect any 2001 M3's.

M3. Get the goods. I bought mine used, too, only 9400 miles at 10 months, guy's wife was preggers and he had to get the family wagon. his loss my gain, just check it out thoroughly, even if you run a carchex on it, everything isn't always there, remember if they have a body shop in the family nothing goes on the books.
