I'm pulling in to the parking lot at my office yesterday and one of my friends points to the front of my car as i'm pulling in... he says "what happened to your car! the front bumper is cracked and so is your light!" I thought he was joking...

Got out, looked at the front and what do you know.... there was a big scrape where the bumper was hit.. i guess it doesn't give very much so it cracked all the way through where it buckled. my front left turn signal was cracked... I couldn't believe it..

Needless to say.. I was livid... Even more so because other than the parking lot at work, I don't park her near anyone if I don't have to. Pissed because I knew it had to have happened before at work because the only place I drove was home the previous night and no one could have it there.... so i was just stewing... getting more mad by the second because i didn't know who it was.....

I walked across the street to the convenience store to get some coffee and getting angrier because I kept thinking it was such a 'dick' move for someone to hit and run.

As i was walking back to the office, one of the other guys i work with was looking at my car. I just assumed that he heard from my friend who told me about it.. As i walked up I said "someone f'n hit my car last night here in the parking lot and left - f'n prick!!!" I showed him the cracked bumper and the light with a little piece of plastic hanging off.. Next thing he said was that he did it. I was like, 'what?!!?!' He told me that he was backing up - he's got a new Lexus GS430 and didn't see it. He thought he hit the curb, not my car. Nonetheless, i was relieved to find out who did it, and that he fessed up. He sincerely apologized and told me to give him the bill.

Does anyone know approx how much that piece runs? its the front bumper that is connected to the foglights. Luckily, I have a friend who's mother owns an auto body shop that specializes in German cars (porsche, benz, bmw, audi) so, she's going to give it to me at her cost. She has to look at it first to figure out what I need, but I'm glad to have the connection. I was just wondering what the retail for this piece is if anyone has had to replace one. I'm actually bringing it to her on Friday because my schedule doesn't allow me to go any other time and its about an hour drive away.

I'm glad the guy came clean and told me. As it stands, he would have been ratted out anyway. Later in the day a couple of people came up to my office and asked if i knew my car had been hit. Apparently there were a couple of people outside smoking and saw the whole thing and they knew it was my car - my baby. They just wanted to make sure... that was pretty cool of them... glad to know i'm liked in the company.

just venting.... thanks-

well, the guy did come clean as soon as he saw me... so i couldn't really hold it against him. i'm taking it tomorrow to the shop to have it priced out.. i checked online for the part, found it at turner motorsports.. retail is like $900 i think but that's with the foglights and stuff. i don't know if its all one piece or if i have to replace those too... if that's the case, i'm going to upgrade to xenons....

same thing happened to us... Our car was parked on the street.. when my dad came to move the car he saw the whole back bumper and back right corner just mangled.. But the guy was an "honest man" and he left his phone number.. now land rover estimated the damage at 2k and the guy dosent want to pay up...

that would piss me off... well for one thing... i work with this guy, we're in the same office. plus, he makes a good six figures... he won't back out.. but, if that were the case.. i have several actions of recourse that would remedy the situation.. i'm not worried.

$675 to have the whole front bumper replaced. had the estimate done today. that's actually not that bad, i expected much more... but, those are 'friend' prices.. was told that it should be much higher..

can't you just call your insurance and have it be covered under comprehensive? (not sure how things work out there.. but if it was a parking lot hit and run, isn't there an insurance coverage for that?

in michigan, it's no fault btw, so i might be different, but we have broad collision, which means, if i'm at less that 50% fault for causing the the accident, the insurance will cover w/out the deductable. same works for comprehensive, so even if my car got mangled in the parking lot, the insurance would cover it, free. or paid the $100 deduct.

but if the guys rolling 6 figures, hell i'd say he could afford to pay up. besides, you know where he works, he knows your car.. you can possibly go eye for an eye on him right? [;)]

i hope it works out tho.. easy for me to say, but after owning couple new cars, both my own and seeing family members' car is a car. it sure sucks to have your baby be dealt in such a way, but being pissed about it won't change a thing, i used to get pissed at every little scratch, and every little pebble that hit me from a back end of a slow ass trunk in the highway.. now i got over it.. and the most imporant thing is that you are safe. (tho that doesn't really apply since you are fine, and it happend to a parked car, but hope you get the point.) on the same token, i totally feel for you too.
