The other day, I was on the right lane (stopped at a red light) of a 3 lane road. The lane was about to end a little under 1/3 of a mile ahead. Naturally, I needed to get over to the middle lane at some point. To my left was what looked like a tricked out white Honda Prelude with a monster coffee-can exhaust and some outrageous aero-dynamic mods and decals. I didn't notice the Honda until a few seconds after I started accelerating away from the light. I guess he either didn't want me to pass him or was trying to race me. to the merge. So the jerk sped up so he was slightly ahead of me. After about 400 or 500 feet, I realized that I wasn't getting over to the left without passing him or slowing down to get behind him. So what do you think I did?

I felt that this wasn't going to be even close to a challenge. I heard his car shift at very high revs to stay just ahead and to the left of me. I continued down the road and never went over about 5000 or so before up-shifting, which kept us about even. To not take a chance, I decided to pass him. Needless to say, I made the Prelude pay for his rudeness by passing him at 7000 or 8000 in 3rd or 4th (I don't remember exactly).

What would you have done?

Disclaimer: There was no traffic on the road at the time. It was about 2:00 AM. The weather was fine. No animals were injured in the process.

I would for sure smoke him. Although sometimes I would think it would be better to just let him go. Some people say that a BMW driver should be more mature than others and I try to be but sometimes I just have to show them what a BMW can do.

I would have probably done the same, or on the other hand you could have just let him accelerate first and then switch over while hes way up front....... but then again since it was a Honda and he seemingly wanted to race you did the right thing[thumb]

Similar thing happened to my brother and I, but it was a Civic instead. There were three lanes merging down to two and I was the one in the middle lane. Light turns green and he floors it, I didn't bother racing but kept an even pace so that he was forced to get back behind me.[:)]

Woulda depended on the mood at the time, and how obnoxious he was. If he was really seriously trying to pi$$ me off, I would smoke him.

The other day, I was pulling onto the highway from a shopping center and the exact same car you described (white riced 'Quaalude') was in front of me. He looked in the rear mirror and started reving the engine, etc. When it was clear, he pulled out. I rode on his rear bumper for about 200 feet, he was trying like hell to pull away, kept looking in the mirror. He knew I had him. I coulda passed him, but I figured it was more insulting at that point to give up and let him know his ricer wasn't worth wasting the gas on.

Well, if I had a bmw, most likely I would just do what tom did...not like you waste a lot of gas accelerating like a grandma to stay side by side with a ricer...

In the van, i smoke them just to let them know a minivan is faster than their car.

I LOVE Tom's approach...

Keep up with him (Civic) as he struggles to merge
into the center BMW lane and

force him to grovel (def. to creep with the face to the ground) into the center lane behind you,

in complete humiliation. Or in layman's terms: To make feel like a complete [shake] hole...

Smoke-em or not?
I too am a somewhat sensible driver.

~BUT~

Nobody around or in the way, coupled with "have to merge" situations are like playing in the superbowl....waste him with no mercy. [:D]

I say if you can safely pass and do it in an adult like manner...put a boot to his ass !

I had a Prelude, they are high RPM, no torque machines.....nice ? yes, but they dont have any grunt after 1st gear. 325 steps will take them, they a mid 7's at best.

I agree with Tom. Make 'em suffer. Course it depends on the mood, too, I've done both. Sometimes it feels really good to smoke 'em. When you know you have the upper hand, either way, it doesn't really matter, the rice mobile loses all the way around.

Smoke 'em if you gottem.
I would rip that little son of a bitch and then come back around and push him into the ditch.
M3 drivers need to be real assholes....kill and destroy all non-BMW's on the road!!!

:)
