smoke from muffler...!!

everythin else seems to be in working order.. but one question in the mornings ( especially when its cold) theres a big ball of smoke that comes out of the exhaust when its warming up.. it smells like gas sometimes.. but once its warmed up it stops completly .. does anyone else have this problem?

A small amount of white smoke during start-up sounds like innocent condensation.

definatly smoke rather than steam???? i wouldn't worry too much. there are so many noises that come from my humble E30 i don't even care any more. (alougth both fuel pumps make a fairly load whine when its cold!!!)
