Someone explain this to me! stupid possums

So the day after i hit a possum (a thousand times) my fan is hitting off my radiator near the bottom. How is this possible?? I don't think it has anything to do with the possum because there isn't any body damage. I hit the stupid thing going about 40 (came out of nowhere) my car is lowered (the thing hit eveything under my car) i heard a thousand thunks. It was crazy.

Anyway now my fan hits my radiator lip at the bottom. I tried just bending the radiator lip and it certainly helped. Hmmm maybe i can bend it more with pliers. I fear that too much tampering will cause a leak but i don't want my fan clutch to go bad because of all the rubbing.

Oh well. I guess i'm just venting.

I think its probably the fan shroud. Mine is loose and hits the fan.
checked that and actually ripped the bottom of the shroud off casue i thought it was teh problem. Now it hits the bottom of the radiator. I kept driving with it hitting the radiator. At one point the fan got stuck completely. I think the fan clutch hates me. But i freed it and it still works. I think by now the radiator shaved just enough off the fan to make it stop hitting. haha.

One of these days i'll take a look at it. Engine mounts, etc. I hate taking off that plastic shroud underneath though casue i put these bolts in it that makes it not so fun. oh well, some day. Hopefully soon.

Thanks for all the ideas!

Maybe when you hit the little bastard, it knocked the radiator out of its lower mount, pushing it back towards the fan. The bottom of the radiator isn't rigidly fixed - it just sits down in a sort of groove. The only rigid mounts for the radiator are the two bolts on the tanks on the top end of the radiator. I think it would be worth taking a look at - obviously the radiator got shifted.

Hahaha you'll be the first guy to ever burn up a fan clutch, even before FROLF figured out how to do that.
hahaha &*%^ ^())_& $%^#$ $#%$##%^

yup you guessed it. the fan clutch burnt.

My fan must have gotten so torn up that eventually it destroyed the fan shroud, got caught, and burnt the clutch before i realized it got stuck again.

I bought a new fan and clutch but obviously need to figure out the cause before i put the new stuff in. Right now i can't even remove the fan because mysterioulsy it is too close to the radiator. My radiator is where is should be i'm pretty sure. Motor mounts seem to be fine.... this whole thing puzzles me. I'll have to figure it out tommorow morning. curses! haha.

Found the cause.... rukus hit it on the nose, one of my engine mounts was destroyed.

You'd think i would have taken your advise sooner but i was having trouble getting time to look at them cause you have to jack up the car. Thats what i get i guess.

Anyway the engine was sagging a decent amount and pushed forward a little. I can't believe my engine is still in my car after how i've driven with only one engine mount. haha.

Its an unbelievably easy thing to replace, got the old one out in like 5 minutes, i have to order a new one though. I can imagine my car will be a lot smoother when fixed.

thanks for all the help!

Glad it worked out. Once I find another e30, we should meet up in the spring mjbst111 or see if there are any drives around here. I'm in Lancaster County!!

ya i'm pretty relieved. It cost me about 150 for all the parts, a littel less actually.

That would be great. There has to be more BMW action around PA. And i need to get off my ace when there is. haha. Lancaster isn't too far away.... 3 hours? or 4? I'm near clarion (cook forest) from time to time as well.

here's an e30 for you! expencive but it looks nice!

then again its on the other side of the world and buying stuff form california is always scary..... I'd love to get my hands on those ellipsiods though.
