Hi Guys

I'm about to take delivery of a 330i. I read somewhere that you can engage sports mode by pushing the gearstick to the left from "D" and then driving normally without having to change gears with the "+" or "-". In other words, it's like a sports auto mode.

The result is that shifts are supposed to occur at higher engine speeds.

Does anyone know whether this is true and how the sports mode drive compares with the normal mode?

Hope I've been clear - my first post [wave]

Cheers
William

It is true and is with pretty much all auto Bimmers with steptronic as far as I know, my E46 has it as well. It chews up a fair amount more of petrol, the engine is far more responsive, a lot more willing to hold a lower gear and has heaps more punch off the line and with rolling acceleration. It is fun to use, but I never really have the opportunity to. Once it's in 'Sport', if you shift it at all, it turns into the psuedo-manual mode. Try it out when you get it at any rate.
