Hey guys,

Alright here I go. I own a 1983 318i e30, now the car was in an accident and the front end got a bit smashed in. Needs new bonnet, grills, lights, bumper, apron, radiator mounts ect. I can get all these (was quoted $950 for a nose cut, reasonable price?). But about a month before the accident at a service I was told that the engine was on its way out, the cylinders were down on pressure and a couple of other little things. In the crash the radiator was wreaked, as was the fan, the water pump and those fan belt circle things. I believe the rest of the car to be straight. There is no rust, the owner before me was an enthusiast so the car is in excellent condition.

Instead of getting a new car I thought I would try and fix the one I have. And make a machine out of it at the same time. It was suggested that I put a SR20-det (Nissan engine) in it. I have been looking at getting a sr20 front cut. Just wondering if anyone has done or seen done a similar engine swap, and any other problems ect.

All suggestions/ help is greatly appreciated

Thanks
Nathan

I have done a bit of research and have found (i hope) that its not that hard to do, gearbox lines up with the hole and everything, Nissan nose needs to be welded onto tail shaft, the main problem is that the exhaust is on the wrong side, which you cant do anything about.
Also if any one has an idea of a nother engine that would be suitable i was thinking about a 2L bmw engine, does any body which would be better?

again any sugestions greatly appreciated

You would have better luck with a m20, m50, s50 or s52 engine
All these engines will fit in the your engine bay nicely.
If you are really serious, drop in a m60 or m70. It can be done!

Besides, does it make any sense to put any other engine than a BMW in a BMW? [slap]

Yup, with enough money anything can be done, but i would definatly go with a m20 if budget is tight or a s52 if you want some good clean fun
