My 02 525 has a noice that BMW cannot fix. While in gear (only in gear) and accelerating at 2000 rpms, there is an intermittent buzz/grind/resonation from under the car. It happens more while pressing the gas pedal on an incline. Always around 2000 rpms.

BMW cannot replicate the noise in the shop. The car must be in gear and accelerating. BMW thought is was air/vacuum related and changed the intake valve, certain belts, pulleys, the brake boost and other stuff.

Any idea what this could be???

I wish it were normal. However this is a loud annoying problem and I am determined to get it fixed. I suggested to the BMW folks that it is in the transmission but the tech who I took out on the road twice said no. Maybe his ego got in the way.

If you have any other ideas please advise.

Thanks.

Sounds like a rattling heat sheild to me. My friends E36 had a loose heat shield and made a noise around 2000 rpm, though it wasn't very loud.
