I have purchased a 1997 Z3, 1.9 in great condition with 23,000 miles on it. Periodically as I drive it, there is a "cricket" like sound coming from behind the seats. Does anyone with a Z3 had this type of problem and what did you do to get rid of the noise? Thanks.

Did you try a can of bug spray?

Sounds like it might be a rear shock creaking. I've just begun to notice mine doing this over bumps and getting in and out of the car. Is it a constant sound?

i think i have the cricket noise too, from both sides. i'm hoping it's just the upper shock mounts but not the metal chunking out of the chassis? it's a known problem spot, i've seen aftermarket beef-up kits for the upper shock mounts, anybody using them?

Noise

Could be RSM's, could also be the dreaded subframe crack. Could also be a cricket..

Subframe crack is easy to spot, RSM's are easy to replace.
Crickets are hard to catch...

If nothing else works, just turn up the radio
