[???1] I took my 99 540i for an oil change on the weekend. I was informed by the mechanic that he can't do it because my oil plug was just spinning in the oil pan. I hope I don't need a new oil pan. Any suggestion how to rectify this problem? Of course the guy who changed the oil last time doesn't want to take responsibility.[bash]

Sounds like the previous mechanic over tightened the plug.

Try using a pair of vice grips and pulling on the plug while unscrewing it. Hopefully there is still enough thread to twist it out.

Once you get it out, inspect to see wither its the oil pan or plug that is stripped. If it is indeed the pan, you can just pick up a new lower pan from the dealer for about $150. You will also need to replace the gasket.
