I have the full stainless cat back system on my 99 2.5 After putting the system on I would say only buy it if it’s for the look. The sound has changed just the smallest amount. When the car is idling its quieter then the stock system and the only time you can hear it open up more then stock is on the highway down shifting from 5th to 4th on an uphill. At that time it sounds great but other then that you won't know you put it on. The tube size was the same as stock on my car and the weight was just about 5 lbs lighter then stock. The finish is great on the second one they shipped me the first one had issues with the plating on the tips the new one looks perfect. The fit is very good but not as good as the BMW OEM system. It sits very close to a brace that’s in front of the rear end and sometimes rattles just the slightest bit from that. To correct this issue I would have to lower the adjustable mounts on the muffler but then I feel the tips would be sitting to low for my taste. I also took some pic's when I put the system with side by sides and some of the steps.

Very honestly I'm not sure. The problem is you don't have many choices. You can go real loud or go with a different brand and get about the same sound levels out of them but maybe with different exhaust notes. I also looked into it afterwards and wondered how it could be as quiet as it was. When you look at the SuperSprint it’s for the most part a glass pack with stainless steel wool packing. This normally equals loud. I found that what I thought was the Cat is actually what is called a pre muffler or resonator. The Cats are tucked way up on the side of the engine right off the exhaust manifolds on my car. SuperSprint does sell a race resonator for a very limited number of 2.8 model years. This I'm sure would open it up to make it sound great but I'm not sure if you would start waking the neighbors up when you start the car and it won’t fit on my car so I’ll never know. I can say I do still like it. I’m not upset with it but it did not make the car sound hot from the minute you start it up like I was hoping it would. It’s definitely on the very hard to tell the difference over stock more of a hair more sound and a better exhaust note. Normal driving you would never know you changed it getting on it hard you can tell it sounds better but mostly likely just because you are straining to listen to your new $700 investment. If you ask my wife she would say she can not tell that its been changed at all other then the dent in the check book and she is in the car just as much as I am.

Good review. I too would like a more throaty sound, not necessarily louder. I like the M exhaust note upon acceleration, but just sitting at an idle you can't even tell if she is running. That is why I have not changed the exhaust, real expensive and no real benefit that I have seen. Thanks for the info.

Appreciate the thorough review. I wouldn't mind adding a little more growl to my Z. I've had a few folks ask for me to open it up a little so they can hear it. It's really pretty quiet in my opinion though.
