Tapping sound

I am hearing a strage tapping sound that seems to be coming from the right hand side of my engine near the dash (i could be wrong though) it does seem to quienten off as the car accelerates but when I slow down then pull off again, esspecially in first, it comes back. Any advice on wot it could be and wot to look for.

Tapping as in noisy tappets/engine, or tapping as in something hitting the firewall?

could be a wheel bearing too, or something as simple as a broke off lead balance on a tire.

I dont think its tappets, i've heard them on my Manta when they went, well noisy but i'll check out the bearings and stuff. Cheers guys
