Ok, 89 325i Tachometer/gas MPG guages do not work, and after I recently changed the head, the temperature guage no longer works either. Where should I begin? For the temp guage I tried grounding out the sending unit (it's the brown plug, right?), but nothing happened. Any suggestions? [???1]

Actually, I think I'm just going to get some aftermarket guages ... does anyone have any good insight into some good ones? ie price, ease of install, etc

Sound slike a faulty instrument cluster - although, the fact the entire RHS has gone, maybe just the RHS plug has fallen off the back of the IC. Pull it out and have a look. I don't know who makes aftermarket instrument clusters for e30's - usually just the faces.

Yeah, I've been checking around and I think it's an issue with the SI board. I'll have to take it out and check the solders. And sorry for not knowing, but what's the RHS and IC? [scratch]

Thanks for any and all assistance!

Where is a good place to buy another SI board? i have found them at alloembmwparts.com for $140. Is there a cheaper place or a better product somewhere else. I have been driving mine for a year with it dead, just thought i would finally fix it now.

$140 isn't too bad. But check your local shop. I found one at mine for $118. The cheapest I've ever heard was like $97 or something (don't remember where). There will also be a core charge of (usually) $50, which is refunded upon return of your old board.

But once I changed mine, everything started working right away. Although the MPG gauge didn't work perfectly at first, it now does. I think it just needed some time to wear off the buildup of not moving for I don't know how long.

Good luck! [thumb]

i got about 40 of them, $ 35 + shipping,
you'll have to install new Rechargable batteries to it, or do that to your own board first, if it don't fix it them PM me.
