My temperature gauge doesn't work in my car. The needle is below the blue and it never goes up. Is my sensor faulty or is it my thermostat that my be faulty? Also would I be able to fix it myself? Any help would be great.

Does your car overheat? if it does It could be your thermostat, check it by removing it and "dipping" it in boiling water to see if it opens, replace if it doesn't.
your problem is more than likely a faulty TEMPERATURE SENSOR, to my knowledge its on the "engine side" right on top of the thermostat housing, check your conections on top first,
and see how you go.

Welcome to the board "3-sies." lol, my birthday is also on the 31st of july, however i am one year older than you :p

It might be the connection to the gauge cluster. There is a blue port on the back of the gauge cluster right behind the temp gauge that might be lose. This also might be a warning that you SI board batteries are about to go for a permanent vacation.

The sticker is custom, If u dont like the stickers that "bmwboard" sell in there marketplace, id sugest private messaging one of the admins and bugging the hell out of them until they say it ok to produce a sticker of your own,
Whats the condition of your little bimmer like? is it like mine..... rusted (pet hates, errr)

also do what E30m42cab said, search the forum for "SI battery replacement" and do it while ur in there, or delete them all together - id recomend that :)

Peace.

good link E30m42cab, pelican parts is heaven foe us bmw drivers :D
Im not sure about your car 3-sies, but in my E30 323, i dont have to remove my whell to get the cluster out, although taking the wheel off would make it slightly easier, id recomend just squezzing it out past the wheel.

Good luck :)

Hey, mine is actually in really good condition, there are just a few minor things, the temperature gauge but my car never seems to overheat, its gonna need some new shocks, it has a little over 167,000 mi., the passenger window and the back left window don't go down, and the winshield wipers don't work on the intermittent setting, other than that the car is in really good condition

As far as the wipers not working on the intermitent settings, it's probably something as easy as the relay, which is the largest relay in the fuse box... as far as taking the steering wheel off; for how easy it is to do it, you might as well just to make life easier... and rear shocks are easier than blinking your eye... front shocks, I can't say because I haven't done them yet (5months I will), and the window could be a bunch of things.

Have Fun!

E30m42cab make sure when your taking the front struts out to replace the shocks that you dont get angry to much with the poor old ball joints, lever down on the tie rods with a bar and get a friend to "whack" the seats. remove the 3 top nut once you have the joints disconected.
Post a new thred on what trouble you ran into aswell, I'd be very interested as my front left shock is bogus....

cheers.

I'll be sure to take pictures, and make notes. Thanks. I'll be doing the work in my buddy's work shop... he's got tonnes of room, and he owes it to me to give me a hand, as I helped him build his 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 hot-rod:)
