The AutoDry Revolution!

Might as well get this out of the way..I have no affiliation with P&G or the AutoDry product.

My local Target finally got the product on the shelves last week, and I bought the starter kit since it was supposed to be nice (60 degrees) and sunny in the NY area over the weekend. Yesterday, I got the chance to try out this stuff. My car was pretty dirty, so after a full rinse with just water, I sprayed the car down with the soap suds, but some in a bucket and proceeded to wash the car normally. The soap seemed pretty strong. Definitely more potent than normal detergents, in my opinion, but really easy to put on and came off clean. After the car was washed, just turned the nozzel to the filtered setting and sprayed the whole car as if I was using an air brush. Making sure I displaced all of the standing water, I finished the whole car and stood back. Whoe process took maybe 30 minutes.

I'll be damned if the water didn't slide off the car, leaving nothing but a shine, including the windows and mirrors. There were NO water spots. Not a single one, and I have a new jet black finish. After it was dry, I put on a coat of carnuba wax and the car now looks like it did when I picked it up from the dealer last October. AWESOME!

PS: For those who may have seen some water spots after using AutoDry, I think that might happen when there is residual wax on the car. I had to wax a spot last week, and the water doesn't sheet up there, leaving some beads on the finish which may have become water spots if left to dry.

Glad you like the product.

I would be a little concerned with the harshness of the soap and the lack of beading though. You could end up with some expensive paint issues down the road. But as long as you wax after you should not have a problem.

Good thinking!!
I never thought about that.
It may be the reason my car always had spots with the Autodry..., as I use a high beading protectant to protect the finish from UV rays, enviromental debris, fallout, etc.

I had a yard sale this weekend and could not get $5 for my Autodry..., even with 2 sample soap bottles.
Even for $5 it would not sell in my community..., guess I will just stash it or trash it..., as it would not be cost effecient to ship since you can now get the autodry at Autozone for under $15.

Since I plan to keep my car protected..., looks like it will not be in my "detailing arsenal".

A towel salesman?

It's like having a lettuce farmer talk about the Atkins diet.

If you want to ship your AutoDry to me for $5 I'll send my address. People were grabbing it off the Target shelves like it was free candy.

Rude comments not needed:)

I have been in the detailing business for years. I help evaluate new products from MANY companies..., which Autodry was one.
I test new products, write reviews, compare competing products, etc, etc.
Have you read "The Wax Test" (Guru Reports)?

If you have a business address I will ship it and the soap for $10 ($5 for Autodry and $5 for shipping)
I would recommend buying one local if you are interested in using one.

I have some in my garage - unused, I didnt really like the stuff personally, but to each his own, the formula is very low suds, using the spray mechanism feels goofy etc..

Call me old fashinioned I guess. Some guys may like it ?

Bryan330i,

IMO, the soap is harsh, leaves a "yucky" film and just was not "my bag".

Here is a quote from Phil Frame...,
" Did you stop to think that the soap was actually removing dirt from the vehicle? I've said before that I go through a new carwash mitt every two washes. That's my sacrifice for getting a clean car."

If it is strong enough that you have to replace your wash mitt every two washes...,
it will get quite expensive "if" you use a high quality mitt and have to replace it every other wash along with more filters and "special soap".
For that price, I would just pay someone else to wash it..., however, no one but me details the cars..., so that is out.

Here is a link to more info on the autodry..., some likes it, others did not, lots of mixed reactions.
Just like everything else..., everyone will not have the same opinion or results.
I did my best to "make it work", as I thought it would be a great time saver..., but I was not satisfied with the results, although some are:)

Try this link from Autopia for a bit more info...,

Here's how to "make it work"

1) Rinse car with water
2) Spray soapy wash on car, put some into a bucket.
3) Go over car with a sponge soaked in the soapy water.
4) Rinse car with water
5) Spray entire car with autodry mist.
6) Watch car shed water without leaving any spots.
7) Enjoy

Believe me, this is not a complicated procedure. I did both of our cars yesterday in an hour total, and they both came out fantastic. Whether it works as well with a good coating of wax on the finish is to be determined. I'll check back after trying it again next weekend.

This is not an automated detailing machine. But it is the best car washing system I've seen on retailer shelves. Wait until the analysts start building AutoDry revenues into their earnings models.

snowsedan04,

Let us know the effects you have when the finish is protected.
The 2 cars I tested it on were protected with Zaino. One was red, one was black...
I did not try it on a non-waxed car, as I wanted to "test" the sheeting and usually an unprotected car will sheet anyway.

Keep us posted:)

Bahahahahaha...good old Procter & Gamble. [rofl]

Those commercials are hilarious.

Does anyone realize the size of fitter system required to remove particles on the level required to prevent spotting at that type of water flow?

That is funny...I will stick with my method.

I can’t believe that P&G has taken this leap, it must still be in market testing.

You think P&G hit the nail on the head with Autodry, you guys should try their "Magic Eraser". That little sucker is unreal. I don't know if I would use it on leather, certainly not for anything with a polished finish, but for plastic or even leatherette, it takes off really bad stains with just a couple of rubs. That company has a kicking R&D program right now.

so cant you just use the filter on the hose and use your own soap? i dont really want to change soaps, it sounds stupid but i love the soap i use. do you have to use their soap and water filter?
