Injectors dirty, although they should make some clicking, lifters, loose plug wire?
Try some Redline SI-1 injector cleaner, it is great stuff. That will help with injectors if that is the problem.

i was checking the spark plugs on my car and while it was on i was feeling the plugs that go into the holes and i felt that the one closest to the front of the car feels like it is pulsing when the ticking noise occurs. what does this mean?

Hmm,

To locate a mechanical tick requires a listening device.

Stethoscopes work great.

Old mechanics use a long metal screw driver by placing the metal tip on the suspected source and placing the handle against your ear.

Use caution to prevent shorting any connections or getting into a moving part.

Move the metal tip around until the loudest source is located.

My WAG is a fuel injector, they can still work great making a lot of noise.

must be nice to only hear it with the hood open. Its probably your valve lifters. Adjust them and it will prob be quit. Mine are loud and I can hear then with the hood closed. I need some serious adjustment!

Don't get too concerned unecessarily. The fuel injectors can make a ticking noise as they fire, especially on older cars. This doesn't necessarily mean its BAD. Just old, or dirty. You need to determine WHERE it is coming from. If it sounds like a click it's probably the injectors. If it sounds like a tap, it could be a valve or something more serious. Sorry, I do realize that on the internet it's impossible to describe the difference between a click and a tap!
