Timing Belt

Hey everyone... I have a question that may seem confusing, but I can't seem to figure it out. We went up to AutoTechnic and talked to one of the guys about E30 325i's and what to look out for when researching used ones. He mentioned something about a timing belt situation being a problem in earlier models, but it was then changed in the later models. What I can't figure out is if the timing belt situation was changed during the E30 run or if he meant the later models as in the E36's. Confusing, I know, lol. Anyone know the deal with this? Thanks a bunch!

peace

I am pretty sure he meant the e36 because e36s came with the timing chain. I never heard of an e30 with a timing chain but then again, I never had an e30 so I am not that educated on it. Good luck with the purchase.

E30 318is = timing chain
E30 325e, 325i, 325is, 325ix, 325ic = timing belt

E36's all had chains
