i have gotten every piece of all the way down to the sub axle. i then put the out race onto the stub axle, and tried to pound the hub onto it and no matter how hard I pound the hub will not accept the first outer race. has anyone had this problem?

I'm not sure, but I know it took my friend 4 hours to do the front wheel bearings on my car before I bought it from him. He said it was easy... so make sure you check the bently manual and that you aren't skipping a step.

Is this a rear bearing? Don't know. My mechanic changed one of mine a couple weeks ago and I felt so sorry for him I gave him a $20 tip. But I thought he told me it was easy to put together but not to take apart.

If a front bearing did you try putting a little grease on the stub before putting it together?

yeah sorry it was the front wheel bearing. turns out you have to pound the whole hub on as on unit, you can put the race on first and then pound the rest of the hub in

i have the same sort of problem with my 318i e30. if it is on the front, then i was told from main dealer that u will have to buy the whole stub axel coz it is a sealed unit, mine was 110 pound plus vat,i expect yours will be abit more,u might be able to get a patten part from euro parts, it will be cheaper.
hope it helps.
