My 97 528i has about 123K mi on it. I am a little worried about the transmission fluid. Supposedly, it's lifetime fluid. What exactly is a lifetime for a car? Anyway, I spoke with my friend who is a service advisor for the BMW dealership in OKC and he didn't know what to do. He said that they haven't used the machine that removes the transmission fluid from a sealed tranny in almost a year.

Should I have the fluid changed or not? Have any of you heard anything about this?!?![???1] [???1] [???1]

I have not, however I cannot believe in a "lifetime fluid". Consider that all fluids become contaminated sooner or later. I would have it changed, but am by no means an expert on this topic, nor do I have any inside information, just my opinion.

That's what I have been told too. The oil should only be checked and topped up as needed. I would like to know as well, how long will the oil stay good!?
