Thanks in advance folks, cus this is a long one.

1990 E34/m20 525i (266K)

Started the car on Friday and took off as normal, but the car revved up heading into second gear and was very slow with accelerating....RPMs ranged between 3000-5000 before it kicked into gear, once it did, no more problems. Ran fine all the way to work.

Get back in that evening same problem. I checked the fluid, added a bit, as it didn't seem unusually low. Car seemed to be ok, unless I turned it off. Problem won't happen once it's warm under normal driving conditions.

Here's the thing...I've been doing some research, and I've heard everything from valve body, to cleaning the shifter sensor...I have no idea what a kickdown cable is...so I think I'm driving myself nuts. The other interesting part is that a few days earlier my kid spilled some milk in the back seat, not a lot, but definitely enough to leave a horrible stench, in pulling out the back seat trying to clean, I didn't see any puddles of liquid or anything, but I did have to clean up by the massive electrical units contained under the seat (driver's side)....could anything electrical been affected??? I mean it really wasn't a lot...but kind of strange that the problem happened after that. Coincidence most likely. I'm going to go tighten the shifter, as it seems a little loose and maybe isn't fully engaging the drive gear correctly.

Car has been very well maintained, and not to say that 266K isn't a lot of miles, but out of nowhere is surprising if it is a blown transmission. I don't hear the "infamous whine" that most people describe in their posts. It doesn't slip when driving at speeds 60 and above. I have noticed that when I stop, the car will jerk a bit, as if the brake isn't fully applied.

Any help would be appreciated. Again, it only happens when the car is started for the day, once it finally kicks "down", it's as smooth as always...
