Transmission Fluid Check

This is a newbie question I know but I searched and couldn't find what I was looking for...I have a 1990 325i and I am wondering what is the specific procedure for checking trans fluid and where is the reservoir/dipstick located? Thanks

it is an automatic.

there should be a dipstick between the engine and the firewall, but im not exactly sure. take a look and see.

The red dipstick near the front of the engine is the sump oil. The yellow dipstick near the rear of the engine (LHS) is the auto trans fuid. Manuals don't have a dipstick - you just fill 'em up till they overflow the filler hole (located on side of trans) when parked on the flat.

You fill the auto through the dipstick hole. Use the correct fluid for the gearbox (in your manual) unless you want issues later on.
