Transmission Fluid replacement, what?

So this guy told me I needed to change my transmission fluid every once in a while...I don't have any service records, so to my knowledge, the fluid hasn't been replaced in the entire 214+ thousand miles. At the very least, not for 25k, because that's how long I've owned it. How frequently does the tranny fluid have to be replaced in a manual transmission vehicle? I've never heard about it.

If it's never been replaced or if you don't know when it's been replaced, then do it. I'm planning on changing mine tomorrow.

The key to transmission longevity... auto or manual is to change the fluid! The transmission puts the fluid under high temperatures and pressures and it breaks down. You should change the fluid in a manual about every 35,000 -40,000.
