Need Some Help, I Normally Change The Oil On My 1997 528i Bmw. I Told My Son To Drain The Oil Pan While I Went To The Store To Get Some Parts, He Mistakenly Drained The Tramission Fluid Pan. The Car Hasn't Been Moved Nor Started Since This Inciident. How Do I Go About Replacing The Transmission Fluid In My Car.
It's an automatic transmission
Thanks You

I have a manual tranny that I just changed the fluid in so not exactly sure on yours but here's a few thoughts...

I think all 97 and up have lifetime fluid in them = expensive. It was $125 for a gallon of the BMW factory fluid. Look on the side of the trans casing for a yellow sticker indicating lifetime fluid. The trannies have a fill hole on the upper portion of the side of the casing. You basically fill it up until it starts running out the hole on the manual ones. In either case, call your mechanic or the dealer to get the correct specs.

There is a fill plug on the side. Filled only till the fluid begins to run out at a trans oil temp. between 30-50 deg. C. (cool not hot!)

1997-1999 528iA -with GM auto trans - use a reputable brand Dextron III fluid.
Inexpensive and available at any good auto parts store.

Just a thought, my steptronic takes special fluid with friction modifiers or something, I wasn't able to add a special additive I like to use in auto tyranny’s, because of this fluid. You should check with a certified BMW center for proper AT fluid types acceptable in your bimmer. [driving2]
