It will not have the same engine.. that is for sure. It will have atleast 400HP+ engine for it needs to compete with the gorwing trend of cheaper, faster cars in the market. You never see a next generation model be the same HP.. it is always more. I believe it will have an engine of current M5.

they are speculating on 400+ horses, and a v8 to get there.. i didn't read it so i'm not sure, but will it be an m5 engine? or a new one? m5 is supposed to be 500+ w/ a v10..

crazy, but those bavarians won't go the way of the blower due to their design philosophy. i say good for them!!

You'll have to ask BMW, they're the only ones that really know. However the speculation of the prior six months has been V-8 and 400hp. The problem with this is that the body will be the unseen "bangleized" new 3 series! [?|]

i personally don' twish the next gen M3 to get a V8. It would be cool to see an all aluminum 3.8L I6, or soemthing big like that. or maybe just a lighterweight car, thats always my choice.

Well, BMW did the lighterwieght M3, the CSL and it's not coming to the U.S. As for a 3.8L I6, BMW has pushed that baby I6 to it's limits! Hence the 2001s that grenaded. There's just not enough room to stuff the big six in that engine compartment, so that's why all of the speculation on the V-8.

im with frolf, lighten up the car and make it quicker, not more powerful. and im not talking about the CSL, i mean the base M3 - why make it more like an american muscle car but more so a fine tuned, no extras (cylinders), german made ultimate driving machine.

Its not always the case that the newer model will have more HP. Just look at Corvette history (i picked that one because i know for sure), even though they didnt have a HP increase, they had refinement in other areas.

Why stip on lexuries if you can enjoy them with little more muscle? I would not want to have M3 CSL due to the fact that its "bare-bone". However,.. take current M3.. slam a V8 into it and in 4.5sec. you will not see me. [fake]

Exactly - if your going to sell cars, you DO NOT remove luxuries from the cabin. You refine the ride & handling, crank up the muscle & add more goodies on the inside. An extra 200-300lbs to wedge a 400hp+ V8 into the M3 is NOT going to make it a pig or handle like a Chevy Suburban. Bring on the V8!!!!
